I live in Iowa City – home to the University of Iowa. The University begins classes tomorrow. This past Thursday, the Iowa City police department put out a press release declaring they would be taking "a proactive approach in dealing with disruptive house parties and disorderly behaviors in neighborhoods by sending out party patrols on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights."
I think the police are slightly more vigilant this year, at least that's what their press release would indicate. That may be because a couple of weeks ago our fine institution of higher learning came in number one on Princeton Review’s 2013 list of the Top 20 party schools in the U.S. I don’t think the poll is particularly scientific, but the students here are a fun-loving bunch!
Speaking of Universities, check out this 1959 promotional video for University of Cambridge. There are lots of bicycles and tweed. The University of Iowa is not Cambridge, but Iowa City is a very bikeable town. And, of course, Cambridge produced some great thinkers, i.e., Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. But University of Iowa had Kurt Vonnegut, Tennessee Williams, and Tom Arnold!
