A film featuring vignettes with all types of cyclers. They share the importance and meaning of riding in their lives. I've always believed if you're passionate about bicycles and riding, you probably have a backstory. This film gives people the opportunity to share their stories.
About a year ago, I posted a short film entitled Back to Earth from El Zumpango, a Bay area film maker. Now comes Back to Earth II, the sequel. Where the first film beautifully captures the freedom, energy and camaraderie of a group camping ride, the second film features a solo ride south from San Francisco to Half Moon Bay State Beach, transitioning from pavement to sand. Good stuff!
Here's a groovy short film from 1966 featuring the Donkey Bike. Maybe they call it the Donkey Bike because you steer with your rear. Well, not really, but kind of. The film is British but the bicycle was actually made in Germany. I like that it comes fully equipped with mudguards and dynamo lighting system. I dig the mod polka dot trouser suit!
Here's a fun video about an interesting Aussie bloke - a bicycle historian and collector. Check out the "Watch Out for Cyclers" sign on the back of his pickup. I think I like the term "cycler."
There's a wonderful quote at the end, where he says, "When you're on a bike you're liberated from everything else. You can't do anything else when you're on a bike. You're in another world, a free world, by yourself."
I only wish the film were a little longer and we could spend some time going through his collection bike by bike!
A short film by French artist, Edouard Sepulchre. Music: The Great Escape - Patrick Watson. Happy Valentine's Day.
